Why the Church Is Not Going to Go Away

Here is why I do not think the church is going to die anytime soon.

I see a lot of troubling articles while I scroll through social media these days.

Churches are closing in unprecedented numbers.
Churches are seeing a dramatic decline in attendees.
Congregations are not doing enough to help alleviate poverty and homelessness in their communities.
Churches are rocked with scandals such as sexual and financial abuse.
Studies say that nearly 3 in ten US adults are not affiliated with a religion.
Many people are not interested in Christianity and feel the church is irrelevant.

I see many stories predicting the death of the church. However, like Mark Twain, the reports of the churches’ soon coming demise are “greatly exaggerated.”

I do see the church as a whole has many issues that need to be resolved. Christians are under scrutiny, and the world is holding this body accountable for its sins. I know many believers who turned away from their churches because these groups hurt them. As a long-time believer and volunteer in various ministries, I have had my share of hurtful experiences in church.

If the church wants to be effective and flourish in this world, they need to return to the biblical principles on which they were established. Will the sins of church leaders and…
