Some reasons why I have been thankful to have been a part of various churches.

When I started attending church in my 20s, I was a broken person. I grew up in a dysfunctional and abusive environment. I had been bullied at school. My battered self-esteem was at an all-time low, and I had no idea how to relate to people. It took a while and visits to numerous congregations to find a place that fit my background, talents, and my needs.

Here is why I am thankful to the various churches I have attended in my lifetime.

Embraced by unconditional love and acceptance

Many Christians offered me friendship and support. I am the type of person who needs to get things off my chest on a regular basis. My friends listened patiently to my outpourings and helped me when I needed them, bless their little ole’ hearts. My friends and acquaintances were also sensitive to my needs. For example, if I needed help moving to a new place, I could count on a group showing up to help.

Examples of how to do life right

I was pretty lost and not sure what was “normal.” There were some people who were genuine and fine examples of healthy relationships, loving family dynamics, and how to live the Christian life.
