Why Church?

An exploration of why the church exists.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24–25

The first mention of the church is in Matthew 16:18. Jesus said that He would build His church, and the gates of Hades would not overcome it. As described in the Acts, people began to meet in home churches. Gatherings have continued to meet despite persecution and martyrdom to this day.

The church has changed dramatically lately, especially during COVID. Nowadays, we have the option to watch services on social media online. Some ministries are partially done via Zoom. It is possible to feel connected to a church without attending it.

Why We Need Churches

We receive teaching.
Sure, we can receive teaching online through streamed services, articles, and social media/YouTube posts. These can help us increase our understanding of God and biblical principles. However, there is a lot of misinformation out there.

When we attend services in person, we get our information from more reliable sources. Most pastors or other spiritual leaders are available after services to answer questions…
