Little Things I Wish Writers Would Not Do

Some nitpicking pet peeves I have with some posts on writing platforms.

OK, I will state the obvious; no one likes to read a disorganized post full of grammatical errors. Fortunately, we are seeing less of that with the advent of more sophisticated software such as Grammarly. I am talking about little things that can be distracting or just plain irritating.

Paragraph Problems

Like many people, I read a lot of articles on my android phone. Nothing discourages me from reading something more than a screen full of text. It is not fun on my desktop computer either.

Paragraphs should be a reasonable size and varied by using quotes, bullet points, and, in longer articles, an additional picture or two in the body of the text. I am an old lady trying to read content with bifocals and may have a cat on my lap. Please give me a break.

ALLCAPS

ALLCAPS refers to all letters being capitalized. Authors often use this method to emphasize their points. This practice is frowned upon in some writing circles. ALLCAPS are more difficult to read. Some editors say it is the equivalent of shouting at the reader. No one likes to be shouted at.

Exclamation Points!
