How to Deal With Blame-Shifters

As a child, I believed that I deserved the tirades and physical punishments my parents inflicted on me. Clearly, there was something wrong with me. I must be as stupid as they said. When my mother accused me of being rude, I believed it despite knowing it was not my intention. It took many years to realize that my parents used blame as an excuse for their verbally and physically abusive behavior.
