When we think of forgiveness, we tend to focus on how difficult it is. What we do not often talk about is the benefits of pardoning others. Here are some ways that forgiveness is good for our physical and mental health.

The Benefits of Forgiveness

We are not so easily offended
When we forgive, we develop understanding, compassion, and empathy towards others. These qualities help us to improve our relationships.

We can take back our thought life
When we are bitter, hatred and pain develops a stronghold in our thought lives. We often toss and turn in our beds while the people who offended us sleep soundly with clear consciences. Forgiveness stops our anger and hurt from invading our minds.

We can use the time we spent simmering with anger and revenge plans for more productive pursuits.

Forgiveness has a positive effect on our overall health
According to the American Psychological Association, forgiveness improves our mental and physical health. Studies have shown that pardoning others can reduce anxiety, depression, and the symptoms of major psychiatric disorders.
